About Us – YWCA Uganda

About YWCA Uganda

A Christian, women-led organization empowering women and girls to contribute to nation building.

Who We Are

YWCA Uganda is a faith-based Christian membership organization, a non-governmental organization founded in 1952 and led by women and young women. It is organised around a network of clubs at the grassroots to promote the social and economic wellbeing of women and the girl child. We are part of the World YWCA, a global movement present in more than 100 countries, and we work at the grassroots level to advance the rights, leadership and economic well-being of girls and women.

Since 1952 YWCA Uganda has worked in two complementary ways: through the YWCA Vocational Training Institute in Kampala, which trains young women and men for jobs and self-employment, and through development programmes carried out with partners. Our focus is skills, livelihoods, rights, health, safety and peace.
